A Festival of Story and Art
I have visited Norwich School a couple of times over the last few years and I was totally over the moon to be invited back to celebrate with them as part of their 2022 Book Festival. And what a fabulous day it was.
Year Seven students from the school met with other Year Seven students from across the area and we were all treated to a day of celebration of story and art.
I was lucky enough to run a session inspired by codes and symbols hidden in the town. We had wonderful fun thinking about the secrets Norfolk could be hiding beneath its streets and in its buildings.
Then after a really busy signing session, supported by the brilliant Leanne from Bookbugs and Dragontales Bookshop, came a fascinating session led by the multi talented illustrator Ivan Bates. He taught the students (and me) so much about how to compose good pictures and this followed on brilliantly from the idea of looking for secrets hidden in symbols and signs.
After a delicious lunch – which we got to eat in the old chapel building – the day was rounded off by a wonderful session led by the amazing Lisa Thompson. She talked about her new book Rollercoaster Boy and we even got to take part in an escape room activity together.
The whole day was full of puzzles and mystery and I enjoyed myself so much. Thank you, Norwich School and everyone who helped make the day so special. I really hope that the students went away feeling as inspired as I did!
